With the New Year just arrived, here are some resolutions that you’ll actually follow through with.
With the start of a new year comes our beloved New Year’s resolutions. Many of us make promises to ourselves about the changes we want to see in our lives. Whether it's losing weight, finding happiness, or finally quitting that bad habit, New Year's resolutions are a way to reflect on the past year and set goals for the future. However, making generic and empty promises to ourselves can often lead to disappointment and a feeling of failure. So, what should we promise ourselves and what should we avoid?
What Not to Promise Yourself
Losing Weight: This is one of the most common New Year's resolutions, but it can also be one of the most difficult to keep. Instead of promising yourself to lose a certain amount of weight this year, you should instead focus on making healthier eating choices and building a sustainable lifestyle. This could mean cooking more instead of eating out and working out to feel good, not to look thinner. It’s important that you create a lifestyle for yourself and your health, not for vanity and others.
Be Happy: Happiness is a state of mind that cannot be promised or guaranteed. Instead of making this generic promise, try to focus on activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. This could mean picking up an old hobby that you’ve lost touch with or spending more time with people that love and support you. Happiness comes in sips, not gulps, and you should try to find small joys in your daily life.
Quit a Bad Habit: Quitting a habit is never easy and requires discipline and willpower. Instead of promising yourself to quit cold turkey, try to gradually reduce the frequency of the habit until it's gone.
What to Promise Yourself
New Experiences: One of the best ways to refresh your life is to try new things. Whether it's a new hobby, a new restaurant, or a new experience, trying new things can help you to step outside of your comfort zone and broaden your horizons. Try out a new coffee shop with the help of DRIPDROP, a virtual coffee shop that brings the cafe experience right to your doorstep. It’s the perfect way to enjoy a cup of coffee and relax, from the comfort of your own home.
Personal Goals: Instead of making generic promises, focus on specific and personal goals that are important to you. Start by writing down things that are important to you and see how you can improve them or incorporate them into your life. It could be learning a new skill you kept putting off, improving your financial situation, or starting a new project, set achievable goals that will make a real difference in your life. Create plans, timelines and smaller goals to make sure your resolutions aren’t another empty promise you make to yourself every year.
New Year's resolutions are a great way to reflect on your past and make positive improvements on your future. However, making vague and empty promises to ourselves often leads us to quit as soon as February comes around. Instead, focus on specific and personal goals and ditch the toxic and unattainable ones. With the right attitude and approach, you can make 2023 your year.
